I got in a wreck last month where a guy tried turning fromthe center lane when we both we in the center lanes(no turn lanes).Your typicaldowntown Dallas one way street. He’s convinced his insurance that I came out ofnowhere, which is completely false. People amaze me when they can blatantly lielike such. I’m needing to camera footage to prove my claim but I’m trying toavoid the subpoena route.

Has anyone ever requested public records (Public InformationAct) from the city regarding camera footage of something similar. Please give tips/advice or let me know about your experience.

Thanks

If you got into the wreck last month and are just now looking for the footage it might be too late. I'm not sure how long the city would keep footage like that it might be deleted by now... are you talking about the cameras that sit on top of the traffic lights or the police cameras they have mounted about the area in Down Town. One you would talk to the Police the other good luck finding someone at the City that would be willing to help.

I'm sure each local agency does it's own thing with traffic camera footage, but in general, the footage is recorded over every 24 hours or so. The only way the agency I worked for would keep it is if someone asked them to pre-record a certain time frame for counts or other data purposes.

Typically traffic cameras do not record.

To everyone that commented, just an FYI on how the traffic cameras work after speaking with the DPD. The cameras DO indeed record and they hold up to 30 days worth of footage. Sadly as Hawekeye2011 mentioned I'm a bit out of the time frame. Thanks for your feedback!
