Atlanta's much more snobbish than Dallas, indeed, and closed to outsiders. It generally has a weird vibe in many ways, and people I know in Dallas who have lived in both places don't like Atlanta at all. That includes me.

I am a 31 year old male. Lived here for 3 weeks and I have had a blast. I work an engineering job downtown but prefer to hang out more at dive bars, music venues, etc. in lower greenville, knox henderson, deep ellum, etc. I've made a lot of friends in both aspects of my life in 3 short weeks.

Sure, there are uppity people and parts of dallas, like any larger city, but there are lots of down to earth people as well. It also seems to be a big melting pot of people and cultures which I enjoy. Not quite as much in comparison to a place like NYC, but more so than many places and more so than I was used to growing up on the east coast with cities like Charlotte, Atlanta, etc.

So far, my impression of the food offerings has been quite positive, I really enjoy the music scene (haven't had time to get to learn the local scene yet, but I'm a music fanatic and the amount of touring bands/artists I love who are playing here in the next couple months is awesome), I like that it was very easy for me to find open-minded kindred spirits in the neighborhoods I've hung out in, and I like the overall diversity of what I've seen.

I will note that I have made it a priority to get out and do things to meet people. Whether it's going to see a band on my own, or going to happy hour on my own, etc. Don't be afraid to strike up conversation with random strangers.

Actually my posting style is a lot more casual than my speaking style because when I surf the internet and post on forums, I don't find it necessary to use the "King's English" however I choose not to use a lot of slang because I want people to understand me and not think I'm an idiot. For the record, I have an associate's degree and graduated with a 3.6 GPA. Far from a dummy. All that being said, it's attitudes like yours that I'm worried about when I'm thinking about moving to a certain place which is why I posted my question in the first place.

Dallas is a very "Image is Everything" kind of place. Especially if you are in Uptown. The coupled off people in suburbia have their own "Image is Everything" sort of thing too, which takes on a slightly different variation. It's more of a keeping up with the Jones' sort of thing.

A good thing about living in a place like Dallas is that there are so many entertainment options. You can find others here who are interested in whatever your interests are. If you want to date, have female friendly interests. Most women are not into nerdy stuff.
