I've noticed lots of trees (usually small to medium sized) used a ornamental landscaping that have delicate lavender-colored blooms that seem to outline the branches, almost like Christmas lights. Does anyone know what type tree that is? Would love to add to my small back yard!

Probably a crabapple tree, plumb tree, or some other wild fruit tree. They're really only pretty this time of year.

And when they bloom it means the crappie are biting! We tell our boys to count the redbuds on the way to the lake and that's how many fish we are going to catch

You are correct. Crappie bite starts when the redbuds are in bloom. My favorite time of year.
