What kind of after school options are there in Plano ISD for middle schoolers who have working parents? Our kid will not be walking or taking the bus, so I'm curious what do other parents do?

It's always easier if one parent works from home or has office in town.
Thanks, but PASAR is only elementary schools.

yup - PASAR is elementary school only. Don't think there is anything similar for middle school. Most day care places won't even accept middle school age kids so that's ruled out too.

If they could join some after school clubs that could delay things a bit....but finding a club every day of the week will be hard.

Folks I know that are working parents with middle-schoolers are letting their children be latchkey kids. For some unsafe neighborhoods that's not practical I get it. But u said Plano... if u could maybe share why the children can't walk home or take the bus home and then stay alone till u get back, maybe some others might be able to suggest things u haven;t thought of. Totally understand if u don't want to get into that though.

A middle schooler is old enough to take care of themselves. Let them take the bus home.

Didn't ask for unhelpful opinions, simple question.

I think the basic answer is "There are no programs for Middle Schoolers" offered by the School District.

Other parents (1) pick up their kids from school or have relatives pick them up, (2) let them ride the school bus home (or to a friends house where maybe a parent is home), (3) take a school bus to the parents place of work (if the parent works in a location served by the school bus system), (4) take a public bus.

Have you looked into after school Programs at karate, chess, or other facilities? The Collin County Boys and Girls Club https://www.bgccc.org/plano/? Once again, these facilities may or may not pick up your child from school, but perhaps the student could they take the bus. It seems strange, but there are several cabs at my daughters' middle school that pick up kids and transport them to ??? Maybe it's their parents, but because of the nationality of the cab drivers, I don't think so.

Another option is for your student to go to the public library after school. Sometimes there is "homework help", there are computers, and lots of books.

For us, my daughter walks home.

My daughter's middle school has after school tutoring most days, but that would only get you to 4:15.

Maybe you could hire a college student to pick up your child after school and take them home and they could supervise snack time and homework. (Most high schoolers have a restricted license that would prohibit them from driving with an non-related child in the car)

There are also some "Mom-Taxi"s that pick up students after school and drop them off where ever. I've seen signs during the first weeks of school.
