Hi everyone,

So - I'm now in Dallas and have found a lovely, brand new apartment in Uptown on McKinney Ave. I'm trying to decide which internet provider to go with and was hoping that you could share some of your experiences with me. I'm not looking for cable so if I'm looking for internet only, which one of the following two providers should I go with - Timewarner or ATT Uverse?

I had Time Warner just for internet and had no problems in my last home. Everyone I know hates Uverse.

AT&T boosts data caps for home Internet and steps up enforcement | Ars Technica

I don't think Time Warner caps, but if this gets implemented, I'd avoid AT&T.

Why do they hate Uverse?

It was always dropping their internet signal. Two of my friends switched from them, this was in McKinney and Little Elm. To be fair, they also had their cable through them too, so from what I understand, connection quality is better with them if you only have internet (but that goes for any provider.)

It all depends on where you live and the type of connection into your home. Most areas have fiber to the neighborhood or street but most don't have it to the home. My house in PH has twisted pair and coax. I used the twisted pair for Uverse TV and the coax for TW internet.
Neither of these copper lines is able to handle multiple TV streams and the internet speeds i need so i have to split them.

My experience with TW has been first rate with maybe 3-4 hours of downtime a year over the past 3 years.

Uverse TV has been decent but the equipment has issues due to it's wifi network dropping out and slowness if the IR remotes, it's well documented online. Having said that I hate satellite for TV and when AT&T switching to that they will lose me as a customer.
