Thank You

I think the coolest thing is Dinosaur Valley State Park in Glen Rose (about 2 hour drive southwest of Dallas). Dinosaurs actually lived around the river there and you can clearly see Dino tracks in the riverbed. Just wait until later this summer when the water levels have fallen so that the tracks are visible.

I haven't been to Heard, but I second the FWMSH ... we enjoyed it so much with our grandson that we've been members for a few years. In addition to the dinosaur exhibit and dino-dig (admittedly, it's not huge, but it's good), there are many hands-on activities to keep the kiddos busy and engaged all day. We've gone for several special events with him, and all have been well-organized. The staff is friendly, and the museum is cool on a hot summer day.

Enjoy!

I've been to The Heard although a few years ago. It's mostly nature trails. The indoor museum is quite small.

In Waco, there is the mammoth site which is impressive. Our guide there told us there are great exhibits at Baylor in a museum open to the public. But...not sure how dino specific it is.

And if you are into fossils, there is the fossil park in Mineral Wells. I think it's only open on weekends.

Definitely wait on Dinosaur Valley State Park. We actually went yesterday and the water was so high you couldn't see any tracks. You also couldn't cross the river so 80% of the park was not accessible.

Yes, Somervell and Hood counties have had a lot of flooding this month. I'd give them at least a month to clean up...

In the fall and winter the Heard will have its animatronic dinosaur trail up again. I can't say it's all that educational, but my three-year-old could not have been more excited about it. Some of the dinos spit out water and roar. I don't know how older kids would care for that, though.
