Once I get settled in Austin at some point I will want to visit Dallas. Does Dallas have a downtown that I can walk around or do I have to go on the outskirts of the city to find action in terms of bars, clubs, and restaurants? As an old wrestling fan I definitely plan to visit the demolished Sportatorium where the Von Erichs used to wrestle. Even though it's torn down I would still like to see where the legendary building once stood.

Dallas has lots to do in and around downtown. In the future, it will have a lot more because of all the development going on with victory plaza and such.

When I was in high school - long time ago! - I visited Dallas w/a friend whose father lived in Dallas. We went to some restaurants on Greenville Ave. There also seemed like a bunch of bars/clubs and nightlife. Sort of like Austin's 6th street. Locals: Does Greenville Ave. still exist? Seemed like a fun area, unfortunately I wasn't of legal drinking age then. Is the West End still there?

Yes, Greenville Ave still exists. Depends on how long ago it was when you visited if the places are still around or not. Monopolies and Confetti's are gone. I think the male strip club is still around in the area. The farther north of Mockingbird you go it is more strip centers and such w/ some new places. Then lower Greenville is nice and more "walkable" it some areas to go "hoping" from one place to another. Lots of neat places and more laid back attitudes than you find in North Dallas/Addison. I always said I refused to be buried at Restland as it is located on Greenville. LOL!!!

West End....... well the shops has closed up and I believe they are putting in offices. A lot of restaurants in the West End. Pretty busy now with the AAC center being right there and some people have to park in the West End parking lots. Hooters is ALWAYS packed on nights that the Stars or Mavericks are playing. The old El Fenix down there does great business too on the night of games.
