The reason I'm asking is I see some Plano teachers are moving from very good school zone to other places. Is it a sign of rezoning or something else?

I believe PISD has a policy where their kid can go to the school they teach at regardless of district they live in, as long as there is room. However that is only for the school the teacher is at - not the feeder pattern. Of I recall correctly we've got a teacher at our local elementary that will have to move her student to her neighborhood middle school.

I've seen it done before, but there has to be room available, as priority is to the neighborhood zoned kids first. My friend lives in Frisco ISD, but taught at a Plano ISD elementary. She was able to have her child start Kinder at her school.

I've friends moving away from West Plano side of schools (move houses) to Frisco or East Plano and they're glad so because the pressure to catch up is tough and also they're going to high school and wanting to achieve the top 8% status (for guarantee spot for UT).

Plano is academically rigorous hence competitive but it's easier to get top 8% slot in Plano as high schools have significantly higher number of students than Frisco.

8% of 1000= 80 slots
8% of 500= 40 slots

Your student's odds for automated admission eligibility are much higher in Plano.

A good chunk of that 8% at Plano East is IB students from all over the district.

Almost every district will allow a teacher to transfer w/o cost a child of his/hers who lives outside the district--into a school w/room...
We have friend who teaches in HEB and lived initially in Arlington ISD and moved to Birdville ISD--
Her kids both went to HEB schools...and they were at high school she teaches at...

Have friend who teaches in Sarasota County FL--at Pine View which is school for gifted --
grades 2-12.
Her son tested for the school but her daughter isn't that academically minded--
She is going to elementary school closest to Pine View--on the mom's route to school.
They live south about 35 min in another county--
Fl does schools by counties--not local districts...

Maybe they're just cashing in on the real-estate boom.

For example..I bought a home for $300k in Plano. It's now worth $450k. My kids can still attend the very good Plano school where I teach. I can bring them to school (or the corresponding middle school/high school) and live out in Wylie on my acre. Could just be a "smart" financial move.

[At least this is what happens in Sunnyvale. I'm not sure if ANY of the teachers in Sunnyvale actually live in Sunnyvale, but their kids all attend school there. And everyone's Grandchildren.] I suppose it depends on the districts specific rules.
