I saved a.lot when I bought my house by having the plumber run the new gas line along the side wall of the house. Luckily for me, that was the side where the laundry is and where the patio is (gas bbq grill). House already had gas stove, fireplace, and hot water heater.

When was this? I don't think you are even allowed to run gas lines along the side of a house anymore, it doesn't meet current code requirements. That's why I had to pay someone to do mine for our pool heater. Code where I live required it to be buried.

I live in Little Elm and it was done in Sept 2012. He was a licensed plumber.

You're good to go. That's per code a lot of places and even where not one can often win an exception.

Did he get a permit? The rules may be different for running a gas line to a kitchen (I don't see why they would be) but current Little Elm law says to run a gas line to a pool heater is the same as it is for me, has to be buried 18" deep with a tracer wire.

OP asked very specific questions and has not returned to answer questions.

Your pool line is part of your house and your responsibility.

With a slab foundation they will have to jack hammer out a trench which is more expensive. A gas stove starts at $400 and goes up from their depending on the features you want.
I believe that with a slab, the gas line can be run through the attic and down the wall. No need to go under the foundation. That's what someone told me, but others can correct that info, if it's incorrect.

You are generally right. Gas leaks under slabs (there's a plastic liner under 99.9% of DFW slabs) cause massive explosions and fires on occasion.

Truth is gas runs from the meter to the home and up a wall in hard iron pipe and is distributed through the attic 98% of the time around here.

Gas running to the house is not the same as gas running under the house.

After all, the gas line is exposed when it comes up out of the ground to the meter, and when it goes from the meter to the house. The only thing to be careful of when running it along the wall on the outside would be that it is not prone to getting run into by your car, and I would also say it should be high enough that a mower or tiller can't catch it.

No driveway there and about 3 ft up. I can't imagine a licensed plumber NOT pulling a permit. Not worth the trouble to him.
