Looking for Neighborhood suggestions for myself, wife, and 2 year old son. Rental budget is $2,500-$3,500 with following criteria:

1. Under 30 min commute to both ATT&T stadium and North Park Mall (8-5ish schedules)
2. 3 BR/2BA
3. Family Friendly- new to area and would like to live near other young families and hopefully be friendly with neighbors. Want a safe area but schools not a concern.
4. Prefer single family house with yard that is reasonably (understand it will be older homes in area) updated.
5. Proximity to restaurants/parks a plus.

Any guidance on names of neighborhoods or zip codes would be greatly appreciated!

You'll want 75208. Kessler Park is the place to look first. Maybe Winnetka Heights or Kings Highway, although the further south you get, the less attractive that commute to Northpark will be. The commute to Arlington will be fine. Decent parks by Dallas standards, close to Bishop Arts where some of the city's best restaurants are located, tons of families and great community feel, and most of the rentals you'll see are SFH. Bonus, if you stick around, the elementary is good (never know if you might want to use it).

True West Dallas is roughly the area north of I-30 to the Trinity River (on both east and north). Given your rental budget and stated preferences I don't imagine this is going to appeal to you. It is basically bifurcated into older single family homes where working class Hispanic people live, along with new apartments targeting the Uptown crowd at a lower price point.

Did you even read the OP's requirements? Any of those places to Northpark Mall will be hell on earth most days.

West Dallas is an area west of the Trinity River and I would avoid it.

Check out zip codes 75209,75220, 75229 and 75230. There are nice neighborhoods that will fit what you're looking for, though some areas within these zip codes are sketchy, so be sure to drive around the area. Try to stay closer to the Tollway, since the further West you go the worse it gets.

I would second 75208. Your commute will be an easy one to AT&T stadium (I used to live one zip code over in Oak Cliff commuting to the same area and it was about a 20 minute drive without traffic every weekday). You'll probably be 15-30 minutes to North Park depending on traffic. Kidd Springs Park is one of my favorite small parks in Dallas and is great for kids. As stated, Bishop Arts has some of Dallas' best new restaurants with new ones popping up all the time.

Agree on West Dallas - steer clear for the immediate future. Development is starting to creep over the bridge and 10-20 years from now it will probably be hot real estate, but it's not close yet.

75220 or 75229 might be very good fits for you, especially if schools are not a concern. Getting to Northpark via Walnut Hill Lane (with north-south on Hillcrest, Boedecker, or Central Expwy service road) is generally pretty easy. There is also a more leisurely route via Park Lane. AT&T stadium using Marsh/Lemmon, Cedar Springs, Harry Hines.

At $2500-$3500 a month I would not be looking at Oak Cliff .....
I'd be looking at Irving, Coppell, Euless, Grapevine.
Maybe depends on what time of day you go to work.
If you work mall hours, that probably is off peak timing.

Any chance you want to buy vs rent. That's a lot of rent.
Makes sense if you'll only be here a year or two.
If longer you may want to consider buying.

Why wouldn't you be looking at Oak Cliff? There are at least several neighborhoods in Oak Cliff much nicer than any of the places you listed.
