Hi all,

We moved away from Dallas 2 years ago, but we're returning for a week next month to visit my wife's family.

I'm in need of a few new pairs of dress shoes, but I haven't been able to find a store in our new city with a good selection like Larry's. The only option is department stores like Dillards, Macys, etc and the selection is poor compared to those same stores in Dallas.

I recall that Larry's filed for bankruptcy a few years ago. Did they close down all their stores, or just some of their stores? Which ones are still there? I used to go to the one at VistaRidge and the one on the Tollway near Beltline.

Larry's is long gone. You may want to go by the Macy's at Valley View since they are having a store closing liquidation and all the men's shoes are cheap. 30+ percent off.

I've never been to Larry's, but I think that far and away the best shoe selection in town is found at Nordstrom's.

Alas it is gone.
Many years ago when I was sixteen back in 199.... well something, I went to Larry's . I had always had a difficult time finding shoes that fit me- size 14 wide toe narrow heel.
A nice older gentleman spent a great deal of time finding me shoes that fit, and recommended I try chelsea boots. They fit perfectly - I have worn chelsea's almost exclusively ever since. I was sixteen, buying a pair of $80 shoes was an incredible expense for me, but I shopped Larry's whenever I could from then on. Even once it was no longer what it had been. Rare to find that kind of service, especially given that I obviously wasn't going to be spending a lot of money that first day.

I worked for Larry's Shoes from 1984 to 1991. When Larry decided to retire, his son took over the business with horrendous results. Overspending, like taking limousines from the airport to the shoe show, putting in a cappuccino bar in their retail locations and purchasing $90,000 cars attributed to their demise.
When I worked for Larry's Larry himself would come to the stores over the holidays and hand out Christmas bonus checks. (Yes, even though Larry was Jewish, he still called them Christmas bonus') When the son took over, gone were the Christmas bonus checks. Gone was the profit sharing match. I got out while the gettin' was good. I walked away with almost $19,000 in profit sharing from Larry's and made a good living on straight commission while I was there. It's too bad when the kids come in and run the business into the ground. The same thing happened with another Dallas men's store, Rothschild's. The son took it over and after a few years, it was gone too.

I remember Larry's well. If you had a strange foot size they would have what you needed. I visited the store on Central quite a bit. I was sad to see them go.

I used to go to the Larry's in Arlington just off Hwy 360. It was a great place. R.I.P., Larry's.

I worked there at about the same time frame, 1986-1992, and saw the writing on the wall.Worked at the Prestonwood store. I agree with the observations of Lexus Chick. What a shame.
