We're moving to Dallas in June. I've visited on several short trips, but I'd like to learn more about the vibe in different parts of the city.

I lived in DC 2 years (lived in Falls Church; worked on Capitol Hill). Wondering if any former DC or NoVA folks have observed some areas that remind you of DC.....i.e. Georgetown, Clarendon, Shirlington, Cleveland/Woodley Park, Adams Morgan, etc.

I'm not necessarily asking for places to live, just to know vibes of the area - where to shop, go out, etc. Thanks!

The comparisons are only remotely similar, but:

Georgetown:
Highland Park/Highland Park Village, SMU, Mockingbird Station, some Knox-Henderson (but without any of the density)

Shirlington:
maybe parts East Dallas and Inwood Village

Adams Morgan, Cleveland/Woodley Park:
[n/a, nothing really similar]; but, stretching, equal parts Turtle Creek, Oaklawn and Oak Cliff. But really spread out.

Clarendon:
Lakewood + West Village (but the density, again)

I lived by the Courthouse Metro station from 2002-2004. No real comparisons to DC or NoVA. Very different cities.

I agree. I currently live in NoVA and they are very different. However, there are alot of coincidences. For example, the area of Dallas that is said to be the worse part of the city is in the Southeastern part where the new Green Line of DART will go through. In DC, the worse part of the city is Southeast DC where the Green Line goes through. You can find coincidences in just about every city though but doesn't mean they are similar.

I moved to Dallas from NoVA (Old Town Alexandria) last July, and I think you did a good job with those comparisons. I agree - Dallas is so much larger and more spread out, it's really hard to compare to DC/ NoVA.

They both begin with D.

I really think ctrres did a great job for ya.

Highland Park/Highland Park Village, SMU, Mockingbird Station,
those were the first areas that came to my mind.

Hmm, thanks, ctrres! I realize Dallas will be very different from DC, but it helps just to get a general feel.

Ahh, it's March...almost my favorite time of year in DC...cherry blossoms!
