To a slight degree it is satire. I just didn't want to wear uniforms. I wanted to wear regular clothes.

Prison is one place where people wear uniforms, so it isn't outlandish to say that school uniforms are a resemblence of prison.

We had uniforms in school. They were uniformly despised.

I spent 10 years wearing school uniforms and I honestly can't say I remember any comments.

As I said above, if your individuality or your child's is so fragile that wearing the same thing every day will destroy it, you've got some problems beyond picking a pair of pants and a shirt.

Hmmm, I mostly remember it for being uncomfortable to wear. And it's not like the stores in 80s Eastern Europe were brimming with "individuality" expressing clothing, lol.
Also, white shirt, etc., and overcrowded public bus ( don't think Frisco school bus, lol, think much worse than the green line on the last day of the State fair) don't mix well.
