Mark Cuban's bid for 10 acres in the Design District was approved and he's now starting the planning for a new stadium but not until the Rangers stadium is completed first as Mark wants to make sure his stadium is better than the Rangers & Cowboys.

I actually don't think it's a bad idea to move the Mavs to the Design District because something needs to be there that will attract people and the Mavs will do it. I know some people were talking about a shopping district similar to Rodeo Drive in Beverley Hills but Dallas doesn't have a commanding retail presence that would enable a true shopping district to succeed. Highland Park Village and the boutiques in Preston Village is as good as it's going to get when it comes to shopping districts in Dallas.

The Mavs is probably the best bet to get the Design District out of the slumps, not to mention Victory Park looks a congested mess now.

What will happen to the AAC? It's not that old and there's not enough need for 2 huge live event spaces in downtown Dallas that are only a mile or two from each other. Will light rail go to the new arena? A lot of people in Irving, Arlington, and Fort Worth ride the TRE to basketball games.

Is he going to pay for the new arena, or hold the city ransom to get it built with taxpayer money?

Seems weird to build a new arena when the current one is only a few years old and a mile or so away.

Cities have gone stadium mad.

My guess is it gets torn down and replaced with residential tower.

He already owned the land. What just happened is that they approved rezoning for his development that will remove the 85 ft height restrictions currently in place.
The plan is to construct a pedestrian connector between the existing Victory Park station and his property on the other side of Stemmons. Taxpayers will be on the hook for that but Cuban is currently discussing funding the new arena himself. His lease is not up for another 13 years so don't expect anything to happen soon.

Cuban sounds like he's upset with the parking situation at the AAC because the parking agreement has been slow to materialize. I guess he's serious about building his arena on top of a 20 story tower. Then he could have all the parking he wants.

Design District in the slumps? Have you even been there in the last decade? This comment is so at odds with reality. The district is transitioning from primarily warehouses to galleries and apartments and restaurants and all manner of other businesses.

I'm actually in the area often and while yes there are some newish things, it still has a long way to go and it is still very much industral in appearance. It also doesn't draw much traffic as most people congregate on the other side of Oaklawn. The Mavs would make a major impact on the area for sure.

The Design District is not in a slump. It is industrial in appearance by design as in renovating old
warehouse space into showrooms.
