There is a huge benefit to allowing your child to not only experience the application process (and subsequently prepare for that process in middle school), but also have the ability to choose their next level of education.

A lot of students who attend a K-12 school have their high school education pre-determined without any input or choice.
Why wouldn't a child have a choice to apply to the next level of education for 9th grade if they attend a K-12 school originally? I've known loads of kids who applied to other privates - mostly at 5th or 9th grade entry points - and were happy with the choice. It seems to me that invested parents would always encourage their children to have input and choice with these decisions.

There are always some kids at k-12 schools who get tired of being at the same school with the same kids year after year who elect to go to another school for high school.

Because, their parents.

Again, if the parents have an agenda that trumps the child's best interest, there's no way to control for that - whether they value staying at the same school or value K-5/K-8 and separate 9-12 education. There are kids that would do better at K-12 whose parents don't provide that option and kids that would do better switching schools at 5th or 8th whose parents don't provide that option - it works both ways.

The deadline to accept was 3/24 (Friday) by 4pm and I think they immediately start going through the waitlist to make offers for open spots. I have been told that each waitlist offeree has 24 hours to accept so either all the spots are taken by now or they are still cycling through until they fill the spots.

If you call the school, I bet they will tell you if all spots have been filled for a particular grade...
