Just generally curious on the operation and flow of the commercial bidding process.

So, you've got commercial General Contractors/Architects who win the commercial job. After than, they start choosing sub-contractors for the job site. Since PRIVATE jobs are not listed publicaly and there are no requests for proposal, how do the subs get in the door to get their bids in? Just make friends with as many GC's and Architects as possible or?

In commercial construction most times, and keep in mind the process is often much more involved than this, the GC gathers the various plans, often the GC and key subs will meet and walk the job or job site. Later the GC will send specific plans to the subs and the subs will bid their portion(s) of the job. The GC will then aggregate the individual bids into a bid for submission to the customer. The job is only won when the customer decides which GC's bid to go with.

Are you a sub? What specialty?

If you are talking about doing residential you'll need to get to know various contractors who do that kind of thing.

This ^ is exactly what we've encountered in 17 years with our own business and hubby's 34 years in the business.

You need to be on the radar of the GCs.
