It would be a shame for someone to 'update' either one of those homes to the 'open floorplan' that's so popular these days. The kind of people that want to live in 10k square feet will not be the ones cooking while entertaining and don't necessarily want that action visible from whatever room they are in.
For every day dining the kitchens are certainly large enough to house a family.

There are some(okay a lot) kitschy decor items that are easily removed like the mirrored walls and piano tile (eek) and maybe a clever paint job to modernize. But a tear down? What a waste of building materials. Expensive building materials.

A non-tear-down reno would still cost a pretty penny though.

Even if it was bought for price CoCo CAD evaluation in 1996 suggests, they are making significant profit. Ones who sold it to them were original owners.
