My wife and I are looking to move towards the Dallas area because our son will be attending a private school around North Dallas. Our preference will be new construction in a decent neighborhood with a bearable commute (20-25 minutes). We have looked at Parkside, Valley ranch, but we didn't see anything we liked for the prices they are going for. We also looked at Carrollton, but the one place we liked is right at DNT and Sam rayburn and we are a little worried about paying for toll every time we leave the house.

We would welcome any other suggestions. Our budget is 550k-600k.

Thank you

Where are the jobs? How long a commute can you tolerate? 20-25" to school or to work? Not sure new construction in Plano will fit the budget.

Regarding Jobs, we are very flexible. We both work for companies that have multiple locations around DFW. Our main concern is commute to and from the school.

I've seen people use "North Dallas" to mean anyhing as far north as Frisco and McKinney, not the actual part of Dallas proper that is known as North Dallas. Is your kid's school north of 635 or south? If north, a little bit north (Parish, Greenhill) or a lot north (TCA, Shelton, etc) or really far north (JPII, Prestonwood). It can take 15-20 minutes just to drive from Bush to 635 during rush hour so knowing a more precise school location will help give you better advice. Ie, you could never get from 121 & DNT to south of 635 in 20-25 minutes in the AM. That's more like 40 minutes. You can do it in 20 minutes mid-day if no construction delays.

Thank you TurtleCreek80 for your comments and I apologize for my vague description. He'll actually be attending St. Mark's school of Dallas.

Las Colinas is your best chance for new construction in the $500-600k range within your desired drive time to school. Nowhere else is going to be within 20-25 minutes of Preston & Royal. I don't know how many St Marks students live in Las Colinas. Most live much closer to the school.

If I were you, I'd be asking what neighborhoods closer to school have remodeled/ updated homes for under $600k....

Yeah really; some of those houses in Midway Hollow have been so thoroughly gutted that there's almost nothing original left but the brick shell. They're practically new in almost every other way.

Look in 75220 and 75229, neighborhoods just west of the Tollroad where a lot of private school families live.
