Hello all,

My wife and I will be moving to Dallas from Memphis TN on June 1st. We already selected an apartment in one of the apartment complexes located next to the Dallas Main Post Office on DFW Turnpike
(Zip 75208). Before my wife and I move in, the apartment management is requiring us to select an electrical company to be used for our electricity bill. We were provided the following list of electrical companies:

1) Ambit Energy
2) TXU
3) Reliant Energy

Does anyone have any knowledge of these three companies in regards to price, customer service, reliability, and overall business practices ? Does anyone of these companies stand out from the others or are they basically all the same? I'm under the impression from the apartment management that we can choose any electrical company so is there another that is highly recommended?

Also, there will be times when I'll be away on business and my wife will have to walk our small dog by herself. Are there any residential or parks near the Dallas Main Post Office that are in a generally safe area that she could walk our dog?

I appreciate any and all replies.

Thank you.

Understand that all the electricity comes from one company over their lines. "Deregulated " merely means you can choose who does your billing under what terms. Go to the Power To Choose websites to compare plans.

1 is probably good.
2 and 3 are the old legacy companies and chances are you'll pay more with them....but doesn't hurt to shop.
One trick is you don't really know how much electricity you will use, so may be harder to compare charges.
Power to Choose is not as easy to find the best rate as people thing, but can be a resource.
From a friend who owns an electric company, he says be careful choosing the lowest cost provider you never heard of.
They can go out of business if the rates move the wrong way on them and then you get screwed when they sell your account to another company that charges much higher rates.
He also says no matter who you go with sign a contract for 6-12-24
