The area around DART's Hampton station has nice cottage houses that you could probably find in that price range. It's in gay-friendly North Oak Cliff... not sure how convenient that is to DFW Airport though.

Over around the area of Walnut Hill and Webb Chapel there are alot of $200-$300k homes and lots of gay and lesbian couples- Chapel Downs even has a Gay Homeowners Association. I actually used to own in that area and I'm buying again back up there. Very friendly area with older homes that have great character. Look at places that border Walnut Hill/Brockbank (stay just east of Brockbank though)/ Marsh and Forest... One great neighborhood in that area is Sparkman Club. Buying there the homes will definately hold their value.

The Kessler Plaza area (75211) also has some great older homes priced closer to $200k. That would also be near the Hampton Station. These areas are part of a greater area of Dallas called Oak Cliff (SW Dallas). It is very gay friendly. The original and largest Dallas gayborhood is Oak Lawn but there aren't many affordable single family homes left there. Finally, you can leave the redneck stereotypes at home. Dallas is gayer than a Cher concert.
I'm brand new to this forum and moving to the Dallas area in September. This is my first post. I've read many posts researching an area to live. Unlike this thread author, I am not gay but have no problem whatsoever with it. I find myself looking for similar neighborhoods as several "gay" posters have also sought that are urban in nature, "artsy" and vibrant if you will, yet safe. Restaurants, cafes, nightlife but for older (mid-40's) adult professionals. I am divorced with no young children and will be moving there alone.
I already have a job with no location requirement other that I'd like access via DART to DFW and/or Love Field. I will probably rent for at least 1 year and then maybe buy a small house.
Amiga - sorry to chime in on your thread.

HI Amiga, could you please give some details on why you guys did not like condo? We are thinking about condos so I would really appreciate it if you could shed some light on this... Are you also considering townhomes? Thanks

Old East Dallas is as diverse and culturally diverse as they get. Junius Heights, Munger Place are both welcoming. I've lived in Junius Heights for 14 years and have enjoyed the richness that the neighborhood brings. Also, both have become historically preserved so housing values will only go up. It is 5 minutes from downtown and the rail. Also close to library, banks, restaurants, White Rock Lake and all major freeways downtown.

Us Dallas women LOVE most gay men for some odd reason (only 1 I never liked nor did any of the other coworkers but this guy could have been straight and we would have felt the same way). If you can find any other large city in this country where the heterosexual women that are native to that city LOVE to be around gay men......... good luck.

I can't stop laughing over your comment, "Dallas is gayer than a Cher concert". ROTFL
Mom, I lived in Oak Lawn ten years, both near the CrossRoads as well as north Oak Lawn, before leaving town. On a good party nite or for a parade or other event, there would not be a street left with curb parking. Obviously, people come to the area from ALL OVER Dallas. And I've been in those clubs and would have a hard time to distinguish a str8 from a gay. 'Specially on Texas/OU weekend. Never saw Cher but there was a Cher lookalike.

Amiga, in order to have access to Dart Rail you'll probly want to follow the Red or Blue lines to the northeast. Or something close north of the TRE between D and FW. You're not really going to have an easy time finding what you want in Dallas, north of I30 and you probly don't want to go south of that. REALLY, probly don't. Unless it's south of I20.

The mid-cities - Hurst/Bedford/Euless seem to be recommended areas, just west of DFW.

Around Ridgewood Park -- Dallas, Texas and just to the east Merriman Park/University Manor | you might find something for this price but it could be difficult. Search 75214. There are three DART stations - Lover's Lane, Mockingbird Station and White Rock Lake. East Dallas is pretty gay-friendly but there are not quite the numbers you would find in North Oak Cliff or Oak Lawn/Cedar Springs.

We live in a very friendly, safe and conveniently located neighborhood in Plano. Several gay couples in the area mixed in with us empty nester baby boomers and some young families with small children. Zip code is 75093 and the grid would be West Park to the North, Plano Parkway to the South, East Boundary is Travis and West Boundary is Ohio Drive. 2 miles to George Bush Tollroad which is a straight shot to the airport. I travel quite a bit and it takes about 25 minutes from this neighborhood to get to DFW Airport. Good Luck - and welcome to Texas!
