I am noticing there has been a huge growth in Asian community in the area especially north dallas Colin county. 20 years ago Asian communities were quite small. Someone was mentioning to me about korea town in Carrollton. I wasn't even aware that it existed. I though that type of stuff was in Richardson. It seems to have really piped up in the last few years.

I am trying to figure out what is attracting them to the area. It seems since Toyota moved a huge surge of Koreans, Japanese and Chinese decided to relocate here. I expected japenese area but not the Korean and Chinese growth.

I am curious on why the sudden increase and what areas are they moving to. Is there a lot more Korean and Japanese companies moving here.

America's prosperity, stability, freedom and opportunities attract Asians. Immigration through family members or work visas in IT & healthcare jobs make it possible to come here. It used to be scary for people to come to foreign lands but with Internet and skype, humans are coming closer and finding out how much they have in common.

Do you mean Asians (from Asia) or Americans of Asian ancestry? If the later, I expect that they are moving here for all the same reasons as everybody else.

There are some East Asian chain stores recently start popping up in Northern DFW area (Plano, Carrollton). These types of stores usually are in California outside Asia. You can use Google map to search the store names below:

Japanese

Daiso Japan (gift shops) - Carrollton, Plano
Kinokuniya Books (books, souvenirs) - Carrollton, Plano
Mitsuwa Market (supermarket) - Plano

Korean

H Mart (supermarket) - Carrollton, Plano

I am seeing both asians from Asia and from the us. I thought the majority moving lately were Japanese but it appears there are lots of Koreans and Chinese. When you combine them with south asians the area is changing in demographics very fast.

From a property value standpoint this is good but not sure about non asains in certain areas. i lived in California and certain neighborhoods turned a similar way after they were built. In la there was a good reason as they were close to ports and easy access to Asia. I was just wondering are we seeing those people leave California and moving to dallas.

I think this post needs clarification - are you referring to all ethnicity of Asia (the continent) or oriental Asians (whom you mentioned)?

Me, personally being in Plano/Frisco/McKinney most of my entire life, have seen a dramatic exponential increase in Indians. The growth of oriental Asians (Koreans/Chinese/Japanese) is steady but not exponential

Don't take my word, take developers/builders word - the majority of people buying new development lately are all Indians

I am seeing both oriental and south asians in increasing numbers. South asians like to buy new developments but other asians are buying older homes because there used of doing that in California.

I think it probably good for property values because there is a reason they buy here non asians will just move somewhere cheaper if things get too expensive.

The thing for me is as a non Asian it may not make sense to live here much longer the way things are changing. No reason to pay double what I could in other areas because I do not need to live in an Asian area. Plus investing in small business is an issue if demographics change for me.

On the other hand if I was Asian or Indian it means there might be more opportunities for me.

You are focusing on Koreans, Chinese, and Japanese but you are leaving out probably the largest and fastest growing demographic of Asians in DFW: Indians/South Asians. They have pretty much taken over Frisco, Plano, McKinney, and Irving and are spread out in large numbers in others parts of DFW as well.

Everyone knows Indians are moving here because of the high tech jobs. That makes sense but quietly there are other asians moving to the area.

I also do not think that Indians have completely taken over either. They are growing part of the population but not the majority. It will take many more years for that to happen. Plus a lot then can not vote or may lose there visa in a few years and return to India.

The growth of Koreans and japenese and Chinese is probably a bigger shift then Indians because many of them have businesses and ties to Asia. They also tend to stay in an area much longer and invest.

California has areas like this and it appears dallas is becoming more like Los Angeles. Asians areas there tend to be very Asian. Interesting places but defiantly not areas some will want to live.
