The difference between Central Market and Royal Blue is essentially the same as Starbucks and La Colombe. La Colombe is a legit gourmet coffee company while Starbucks suckers customers in with a lower quality product disguised to look as if it were higher and over charges its customers. Central Market has the Starbucks effect while Royal Blue is legit. Meanwhile HEB is your Dunkin' which doesn't try to be fancy but doesn't charge fancy prices either while being good for what you pay.

The laughable thing about the previous comment was claiming Dallas has this supreme grocery catalogue simply over Central Market. Houston has much better options as does Dallas as well.
You are joking, right?

Nope. Also, Dallas has one of the best farmer's markets in the nation.

Royal Blue is a small, relatively bland and overpriced grocer. It's really more of a sandwich shop at some locations.

I wouldn't call it competitive with HEB or CM.

Royal Blue has only 3 locations in Dallas, 6 in Austin, 1 in San Antonio and none in Houston.
It's a smaller store, gourmet/specialty - yes, but it's not a typical one stop grocery store, therefore not different than other small specialty stores.
IMO Houston has way better grocery store selection compared to Dallas.

Houston's and Dallas' grocery store selection is a lot more similar than given credit for.

I would say, for example, Randall's is equivalent to Tom Thumb.

The main differences are:

*DFW has WinCo Foods, Albertsons and Market Street

*Houston has H-E-B

Everything else is the same.

But that's the thing. Specialty stores have better products.

If we are speaking solely specifically on full scale grocery stores, then yes Houston probably has better grocery stores than Dallas. That's probably why Dallas has more Central Markets. They don't have Pheonicia's, etc. There's also less Whole Foods in Dfw than Hou.

But you always find better products in specialty shops. Ngl, I do like Phoenicia, but in general, the products found in large gourmet stores aren't much better than what you find in a decent HEB, but the price is so hefty. Dallas is no slouch in Japanese markets for example. You find much better stuff in there. I love the coffee bean selection at Central Market, but the exact same beans can be found at a premium Spec's for cheaper.

And not all branded stores are created equal. The Tom Thumbs in Downtown Dallas is much better than all other Ton Thumbs.

The discussion was about grocery stores. Now you are shifting the subject. The end.

P.S. As in "full scale" grocery stores.
