Has anyone lived in both and favor one? I like the idea of a smaller school district with CISD but it seems like a driving / bussing / commuting mess for multiple age children in different level schools. I like the appeal of Trophy Clubs small town but I think NISD as a leading school district seems a bit uncertain .

If I could afford to live in Southlake, I would not live in Trophy Club. And from what I hear, Northwest ISD is experiencing "growing pains".

Commute? Budget? Trophy Club is generally going to be a tougher commute to most parts of DFW, and it is apparently a pain in the backside to get out of during rush hour. That said, it's still a nice 'burb that is more affordable than Southlake. It's growing rapidly which could be a plus or minus depending on what you want. The schools are generally good but are not viewed in the same class as Southlake.

Carroll ISD is one of the "Usual Suspects", one of the top 2-4 districts in all of DFW (Highland Park, Plano and Coppell are probably the other 3 districts that are generally in the same class, although there are some people on this board who will argue that Carroll ISD is the best of them all, and some others who will say that its high metrics are expected given the district's demographics and would rank Plano and/or Coppell higher). Regardless, it universally regarded as an excellent district. Southlake is a little more conveniently located for most commutes, and has some of the best shopping in DFW (Southlake Town Square, Central Market, etc.).

That said, it is Southlake. Homes are quite expensive by DFW standards, and...well, there are a lot of expensive cars around there, too. Of course, the car thing is very DFW, period, but...it's a little different. "Down-to-earth" is not a term usually used to describe Southlake.

It all depends on what you're looking for. There's nothing wrong with Trophy Club, but most people would chose Southlake schools, given the opportunity. There really isn't much of a "mess" with children in different schools, as the buses run just fine and start times vary. I have yet to hear anyone in Southlake complain about that. But again, everyone has different priorities and situations.

This thread would get more attention in the Fort Worth forum; since both towns are FTW burbs in Tarrant County
