I am the single mother of a 7 yr old and am looking to buy a condo or small house near to where I work. I currently work and live in Plano. I am curious if this area is safe fora single parent. I live a very low key lifestyle, pretty much go to work and come home. I am not looking for anything fancy, just a generally affordable area. I have be pre-approved for 160,000. I prefer a condo over a home because I do not want to have to worry about yard work. I see that there are several condos in this area that zone to Richardson ISD which seems to make it even more worth it. Is this the type of area where I would have to worry about being harmed. Thanks in advance!

No you won't have to worry about being harmed. This is actually a well kept area with affordable living. It can seem kind of sketchy in some areas but its a very diverse area. All of the single family neighborhoods are nice and well kept. The areas with all of the apartments are the questionable areas. But even the apartments are well kept. If you are buying in this area you shouldn't have any problems.

Take a look at the Copperfield Community in 75243. There are 150 condominium units, 149 townhomes and about 50 patio homes. Very secure community, although there are some sketchy apartments nearby. Area is patrolled by a security service and VIP (Volunteers in Patrol), accredited by Dallas PD. The condos that have resold here lately are in the range of $90,000 to $135,000. At the present time, no condos are listed for sale. The patio homes and townhomes average around $250,000.

Be careful near the apartment complexes along Whitehurst and Forest Lane near Richland College. As others have suggested, make sure there are security patrols, etc.
