I know that none of the Magnets open up spaces for 7th grade, but I was wondering if anyone has known how frequently there are new students accepted for these years due to a former student leaving. I was thinking Rangel and Travis. Also, wondering what they would be looking for as far as the on-site essay goes. Any experience would be helpful, thanks!

Dealey adds I think 30 spaces in grade 7.

As another poster said, Dealey opens up a decent number of spaces. In at least the last 3 or 4 years, every single student zoned for DISD from the (small) private school my kids attend has been accepted to Dealey for 7th grade, and most end up attending.

This page shows seats available for Fall 2018:

https://www.dallasisd.org/Page/32482

This may be an underestimation (I assume that document is based on the info about planned reenrollment that DISD had during application season), but is showing 1 space at Travis and 9 at Rangel.

Also, if kid is interested in environment/science, DESA is another option to consider:

If you are looking for Fall 2019, check into Sudie Williams, too. It is planned to be similar to Travis. I *think* it will be grades 4-6 in Fall 2018, adding 7th grade in Fall 2019.
