We may be moving to the Dallas area for a job opportunity - nothing definite but I'd like to get a jump start incase it goes through. His job would be around North Stemmons Freeway by the Childrens hospital area. We will also need to be close to the airport as he will be flying a lot and we travel a good bit when we can. I will also need to find a job and hoping to get something fairly close to where he is or in between there and the airport. If we move we will be looking for houses no higher than 450000 and would prefer a lower priced house if possible. Not sure about how the property taxes and home insurance work - on the realtor sites it shows property taxes are really low and the home insurance is really high? Coming from Pittsburgh that is the opposite here.
We live North of the Pittsburgh and looking for an area similar in Texas - good school district (we have no kids but it is better to buy in a good school district), easy commute to airport and his job, nice neighborhood (prefer a plan), close to shopping areas and grocery stores. I've read about McKinney, Frisco, and Plano but they seem far for where we would want to be...Any advice is appreciated.

Bluffview over by Love Field comes to mind (also south of Lovers Lane). North Oak Cliff another.

Which airport will he be flying from? DFW in Irving is by far the biggest but Love Field in Dallas will be much more convenient if he can fly out of there.

If schools are not important, the Las Colinas area of Irving would be perfect. The hot school district in that area is Coppell ISD, but there’s no reason to jump into the bidding wars, and pay their high school taxes, when you don’t even need the schools!

You will have lots of job opportunities there, too. It’s equal distance from both DFW Airport and Love Field.

Yes, anything in Collin County is too far away.

One point on this -- property taxes in Texas are pretty high. You can use dcad.org to search a property that you might be interested in. It will show the projected taxes. They vary based on county but still pretty hight (IMO)

Good luck.

North Oak Cliff (Stevens Park, Bishop Arts, Winnetka Heights- all in 75208) and Midway Hollow / Sparkman Club (75220/75229) are both in-town neighborhoods that are highly sought after and no more than 15 minute commute to the medical district. No highway commute needed either. Both very close to Love Field and relatively close (<30 min) to DFW airport. Would open you up to look at jobs in uptown, downtown, Preston center, las Colinas, etc and keep commute short.

Most people consider TX property taxes to be high. You're going to be paying 2-2.5%ish of your home's current value in taxes each year. Home insurance also high due to high rates of wind and hail damage in DFW.

How much do you pay for property tax and insurance in Pittsburgh?

Las Colinas would be the most central to Medical Center, Love Field and DFW.

In Alleghney county we had a 1500 square foot home (not including basement) and it was older and not remodeled - and paid 4800 (it is re-assessed on sale price). In butler county we paid 4800 for a home that is 3X more expensive and is 2800 square feet (it is based on square feet only and whether brick/stone/siding, etc).
