My family is planning on moving to the McKinney area this summer. We are coming from the seacoast of Maine. Big jump, I know. I have been doing a ton of research on the many schools in and around McKinney, it is overwhelming to say the least. Here in Maine you go to the schools in the town where you live. I know it is not that way in the McKinney area. The positive side to that is I can pick the schools with the best fit for my kids.
For High Schools I am looking at McKinney, McKinney North, McKinney Boyd, and Prosper. Do the Middle schools and Elementary Schools run with the high school or are they all mixed?
Do the schools have a girls Lacrosse team and a girls ice hockey team? Or are there travel teams?
Which neighborhoods have more trees and privacy that are in attendance of the schools I mentioned?
We would be looking to rent first, are there any recommended rental sites or contacts that
I can view/call?
I have so many more questions but will take this one step at a time.
Thank you in advance for any advice/recommendations/input!

What is your budget and where are you commuting to?

I don't think many (if any) public schools in DFW offer hockey. I think lacrosse is a little more common but neither Prosper nor McKinney ISDs offer that. However, look at the Dr. Pepper Stars Center for hockey. There are multiple locations all around DFW and there is one in McKinney.

All ISDs have a feeder pattern. So elementary A, B, and C will feed into middle school D. And then middle schools D, E, F will feed into high school G, as an example.

To piggy-back on Stephwin's comment:
School districts here are "Independent School Districts" which means they do not follow city limits, but they do have boundaries. Your kids' school is determined by where you live. Some, but not all, school districts allow transfers within the district or have a "school choice" program that allows parents to send their kids to whatever school they like as long as there is space available. So, you can't live within the boundaries of the McKinney ISD and send your kids to schools in the Prosper ISD. But you could possibly send them to a different school within McKinney ISD.

School-sponsored sports in Texas must be sanctioned by the University Interscholastic League. Neither ice hockey nor lacrosse are UIL sanctioned sports in Texas. Here's the official list: https://www.uiltexas.org/athletics/sports
Since these sports are not sanctioned, they are considered "club" sports and are notofficial varsity school-sponsored sports. Here's the website for the boys' lacrosse league: https://thsll.org/ and for the north Texas ice hockey league: https://www.atthighschoolhockeyleague.com/

Thanks for your reply. Our budget is $500,000. Likely commuting to Plano. Is Prosper too far of a commute?
Bummer on the school sports but good to hear that there are other options! All four of my kiddos play hockey and love it.
Can you explain the fender pattern related to say McKinney North? Im sorry but this is a bit confusing.
Also I see many posts about living in certain neighborhoods. Are there any neighborhoods within the McKinney ISD that have more than a 1/4 acre?
Lastly we are coming from a very small school district (2000 students in all schools) but are not interested in doing that again, looking for a bigger school but not a giant school. Will McKinney or Prosper offer that level?

I don't have firsthand knowledge of either of these, but the Dallas Stars has a junior hockey league and C2C Lacrosse is a well known club. They would at least be able to point you in the right direction.

We live in Denton county and my husband works for Corp America in Plano

Coming from New England you may want to check out this side of town, close to Lewisville Lake, UTD, TWU
and horse country, polo club here too. Different flavor than Prosper, McKinney area.

Several kids in our neighborhood are enrolled in Denton High IB program

The Denton School district plays lacrosse

Thank you for the info Denton, sounds lovely! McKinney has the feel of a small city near us, Portsmouth, NH. We love Portsmouth, lived there before having our kiddos. We are interested in a bigger "town" feel, small city like. McKinney has that, wondering if Prosper is starting to have that?

Massachusetts/New Hampshire transplant here. I think in McKinney at that price point you would be happy in the Eldorado community. "Older" homes (not by New England standards) with more character, huge mature trees, and larger lots. Valley Creek ES is considered one of the best in McKinney. Also not too far from both the Dr. Pepper ice rink in Craig Ranch and the Allen convention Center ice rink. Both have rec hockey programs. Not sure about club. Lacrosse I have heard is getting pretty serious out here with some competitive clubs. You might have to travel a bit to find them. The commute question would depend on the job location in Plano.
