I agree with this. When in doubt, go to Google Maps and see whether the houses in the adjacent blocks have bars on the windows. If bars on the window are the exception and not the rule, you're probably fine in my experience. We go for walks in various sections of the Trinity Forest and have yet to encounter a section where we don't feel safe. That's not to say they are uniformly safe, just that there are plenty that are fine if you do your homework.

Hiking in an area with bars on windows? Maybe on the weekend come to Ray Roberts / Lewisville Lake State Park, great trails, no houses and experience the wildlife and the real North Texas. There is also a great trail in Denton as well, which is FREE!
