Work is in Keller. Considering SouthLake, ColleyVille, Flowermound, Coppel. Schools V imp. Budget is flexible but lesser the better. Southlake and Colleyville are better for commute but feel Flowermound adn Coppel schools are better in terms of NMSF in my opinion. But, feel like new homes in flowermound are priced lot more than what it should be considering its location(not central like coppel). flowermound has 377 and 35 options available unlike coppel (only 1 way). Flowermound has larger lots compared to coppel.

regarding schools, is my order right in terms of quality and nmsf FM, Coppel, Southlake, Colleyville.

Please correct any of my assumptions and let me know if Flowermound is better option or if any others beat it. again competitive schools and not sports the primary criteria.

Those are like 4 of the top 10-12 high schools in all of DFW. You are totally splitting hairs picking one of these over the others because of NMSF. Find a house that you love that works for your budget and commute.

Average SAT scores;
1746 Southlake Carroll #2 in metroplex
1729 Coppell #3
1706 Flower Mound #5
1648 FM Marcus #8
1629 Colleyville #12

What is your budget?

"The lower the better" is not going to help you move into Southlake.

What are your children's ages?

Do you need to be worrying about HS right now?

Have you even looked at Keller? And specifically Keller HS?

Just based on SAT scores I can see why you would overlook it but those scores do not necessarily give the full picture. Some rankings even put Keller above Marcus.

Keller HS and the two FM schools have different approaches and course schedules. It might be worth your time to talk to/visit the schools and people in each community.

thanks for posting the avg sat scores.

budget is between 600-700K. iam sure that isnt good enough for SL, but there are options in SL in that range for an older home. Yes competitive HS is imp, kid is going to be in HS in 2 years.

btw can someone tell me how is the commute between Flowermound and Keller. i see something like 30-40 mins on google maps. do u guys agree or could it be more than that?

The commute between Flower Mound and Keller is about 30-35 minutes with out traffic. With traffic expect 45-50 minutes depending on your route

Check out these sites for school rankings might be helpful

Where in Keller? Is it closer to 35W South or east of 377?

From West/South Flower Mound it should be approx 30 mins via 1171W/35W S/170 if your work is near 170.
If you are up north near 114 between 35W S and 377, it will be lesser (20-25 mins) via 1171W/35W.

My daily commute via 1171W/35W further South towards Fort Worth is roughly 30 mins. Traffic on this route is a breeze both on 1171 (3 lane each way) and 35W S as well. You can also take 377 but its bad for the stretch going through Keller.

Also check this thread, i am guessing your work location is nearby:

I wouldn't recommend a location where 377 would be your primary commute. The stretch from 1171 to 114 is only one lane in each direction, and if there is a wreck (which happens fairly often since there's no center divider and not much of a shoulder) or bad weather, you have no good alternate route. This part of 377 is very crowded with heavy traffic, and unfortunately, there are no plans in the works to widen it. Google Maps is notorious for not including traffic in its drive time calculations.

You might be able to find something in your budget in Southlake. There is also a part of Grapevine that has CISD schools, too.

One thing to keep in mind when looking at GCISD high schools is that unlike Coppell, Carroll, and Flower Mound, GCISD has a fair amount of ESL and low income students. If you pulled those kids out of the mix, their test scores and rankings would be much higher. Coppell ISD also has 50% Asian/Indian students, so their test scores and rankings may be a little artificially high.
