Hey guys,

We are planning to move the end of September to Dallas for work relocation. Looking at Northwest/east, Frisco, Plano, Richardson area.

Decided to rent the first year so I've been actively looking at rental houses/condos etc on Craiglist, Zillow and learning the rent is significantly less than NJ. Is that normal compared to say NJ? I saw houses in under 2500 or less. Currently, we pay around $2500 for 2 bedrooms 2 bath condo in Hoboken, NJ.

I saw ads on CL that had some red alerts because of low rents and ads like buy to own.

Any advice on what to look for when dealing with listings/brokers/owners etc? NJ usually we pay month deposit and pet.

Thanks,
Vic

First and foremost, Craigslist is garbage out here. 90% of those are fake ads.

That said. Yes, your rent will be significantly lower. I have rentals in good neighborhoods in central Plano that are 1600 ft2 3/2 with good size yards for 1900 that includes yard service (as an example) and that’s about market rate.

I’d strongly recommend using a realtor if you’re looking for a SFH.

You also really need to narrow down the area you want to be in. Do you need good schools? Where are you working? What kind of commute do you want?

There are good single family homes for rent in the price range of $100 to $150 per sq ft. You really needs a real estate agent to help you relocate.

A realtor will not charge you, they will charge the landlord. So don't be hesitant to hire one.

Hoboken huh...I used to live there on 4th and river at 333 Hudson but the rent was no where close to what you're paying unless you're in the back.

As for North Dallas, I feel anywhere North of Dallas is great to live for a family. Not much of single life out here or anything like Hoboken. You will find tons of food places but not much of nightlife. People normally move here for good school systems and to buy a home for their families.

I suggest using multiple sources of social media to narrow down your apartment selection. Get reviews from yelp, facebook, google etc. If the average of all is good for the area and your requirements then make the move. That is what I did and I'm quite happy to where I landed knowing I never visited here prior to moving.

Gluck!

Will miss Hoboken and Nyc but looking forward to some warm (hot) weather.
