None of them? McKinney is about 80% white, and economic diversity is pretty much nonexistent.

So. Depends on how you define diverse.

Where is your job and what is your budget? That could narrow the list of schools down for you. Also, keep in mind that school and city boundaries in Texas do not line up.

I grew up in a predominantly white school so I’m not opposed, best experience of my life. I just want to be sure he some type of diversity and that he is not the token minority. I of course want him to have an enriched experience overall.

This is a legitimate concern, it may not be totally understandable for people who are used to being in majority but anyone who has been in a minority group can relate to possible psychological effects of being a token minority.

On the other hand, if a minority wants to limit exposure to majority or other minorities, that’s unhealthy as because of parental fear, children miss out on a diverse upbringing, crucial for a child to be an empathetic and inclusive person, comfortable with others regardless of their race or religion.

My greatest concern would be the absolute lack of economic diversity in that area, but YMMV

Let's not get ahead of ourselves, what's your budget?

I lived in McKinney for several years, and we lived in the Winding Creek area, which has housing ranging from mid $200's to over $1 million. Our home was around $400k. At that price point, we found ourselves in a pretty diverse neighborhood as far as ethnicity is concerned. Our neighbors directly across the street were white, the house next to them were Indian, 3 houses up were black, the neighbors across the alleyway were Indian, the house next to them were black... it was about as diverse as you could hope for.

That area fed into Roy Lee Walker elementary. Not all of our neighbors had children, mind you, but here's a link for that elementary with ethnicities broken out:

https://www.har.com/school/043907115...mentary-school

As you can see, whites make up 66% of that school, even though they are 75-80% of McKinney as a whole.

Schools in East McKinney have a lot less white people. Some schools have only 15% white people (majority Hispanic). Finch elementary is only 4% white. The schools in East McKinney however are not very good.
Mooneyham elementary which is a Frisco ISD school in McKinney is rated very good. The school is very diverse as no race makes a majority. It is about 35% White, 40% Asian (mainly Asian Indian) and 10% Hispanic.

McKinney being the historic county seat of Collin and a decent sized town before the Dallas suburban expanse moved northward will have an older, less expensive housing stock compared to the other burbs in the area. Areas west of 75 might seem similar to the other burbs in newness and price of housing, but when the whole is added up, you will find Mckinney more economically and ethnically diverse than most areas around. My kids attended Ruben Johnson ES which is in the Eldorado Heights area. Found it very diverse.
