We want to move back to Texas from the Atlanta, GA area! We used to live in the Flower Mound area-- our kids are over 18-- they want to work and go to college--both my husband and I have jobs where we can work anywhere--but I am not sure whether we should move to the Dallas area or Houston area. Besides the jobs and college requirements, my husband and I want to live in a neighborhood where we can walk, bike safely--no living in the country. Please help!

There are several master planned communities that offer lots of biking and jogging trails such as Stonebriar in McKinney, Lost Creek in Allen, Castle Hills in Lewisville, other areas are Murphy with a serene setting.

If you prefer to be closer to downtown Dallas, I would recommend Lakewood or some areas near White Rock Lake.

If you want to be closer to a body of water, Lake Ray Hubbard in Rockwall has several communites such as Chandler's Landing, the Shores etc...

You may want to make a trip and explore everything this beautiful place has to offer.

Lakewood is perfect for walking and biking - we have the largest area in the metroplex that is not divided by a major road -- everything east of Abrams, north of Gaston, south of Mockingbird over to the lake -- residential streets, no need for lights -- the Katy Trail is being expanded from Turtle Creek/HP/Knox-Henderson to join the trail north out of the lake which goes all the way north of LBJ. On the south side of the lake, the Tenison Trail-East Dallas Veloway will connect the spillway area to Tenison Golf Courses, Lakewood Country Club Course, Randall Park to Deep Ellum/Expo Park/Fair Park/Downtown.

We have huge trees and winding, hidden streets and many creeks. Check out Tokalon for example. And you are close enough to walk to Lakewood or Hillside Shopping Centers. Walking meccas of Lower Greenville/M-Streets and Knox-Henderson are nearby.

Lakewooder, do you know of a map that's going to show the completed trail when it's all finished?

It's going to be a sweet long distance run....

If your kids want to work and go to college, I'd recommend living close to Denton and the University of North Texas. You could also look at University of Texas at Dallas which is actually in Richardson and the University of Texas in Arlington.

Dallas and Tarrant counties both have good community college networks, too.

And there are private universities, but they are a LOT more expensive!

Default Other college and university choices.

In addition to the University of North Texas, Denton also has Texas Woman's University. Both universities are growing fast.

Just to the south of Denton is a branch campus of North Central Texas College (NCTC).

Collin County Community College (CCCC or Quad C) is a well-recognized community college system with several campuses.

WHY? There are so many other better places to live, with prettier scenery, and better weather. As for education. . .
