Texas Statistics

Total student enrollment

UT- 52,000
TAMU-70,000
UTD-30, 000
Baylor-17,000

Now you do the math for which colleges send the highest percentage.)
Um.
How many applied?
50,000? No.

Most everything you write about this topic is suspect. To wit your notion of passion being enough - that's just silly and does not warrant more response.

That’s fine with me, not everyone cares for intangibles in life.

Well, at UT the freshman class is like 9k or so (40k undergrads). So all of them were premed, and then most didn't make it and the remaining 8% applied to med school?

Yeah, I don't think so.

Yeah, I don't think so.
I don’t think so either but still many many times higher than a selective school only accepting 800 or so freshman. Even if 20-25% start pre-med, it’s still a tiny number.

OK I'm curious, why the thumbs down on the TCU med school?
As an alum, I was actually pleased when they announced the opening of the med school...I believe it's in partnership with UNT if I'm not mistaken. My sister in law is wrapping up her third year of pharmacy school at their Fort Worth center, and my second sister in law is exploring going to PA school there as well. So I'm curious as to why you are down on it.

Plus I would have thought that the metroplex needs another med school in the area. Having just UT Southwestern always struck me as ridiculous for an area this large.

I don't think the school itself is bad, but supposedly their tuition will be ~$50k which is a horrifically bad value for med school in Texas...more than double what any other existing Texas schools (save the brand new DO schools) costs. If you are going to spend that much, I'd look out of state at an established school first. It would be a last resort in TX.

They are also going to be right on top of the existing UNTHSC DO school and I'm wondering how that is going to work out.

UTD - full ride with some stipend (and is 3 miles away from home &#128522

It's a no-brainer, he should go to UTD because that's the school he has a full ride to.
