Retiring in about a year. We are from Bergen County ,NJ. Wife and I are in 40's with a 11 year old and 8 year old. Looking for great schools, most important ! Looking for good athletic programs. Looking for the suburbs of Dallas/Fort Worth area, will not have to worry about commute. Like that Dallas has a big airport, which will make life easier for wife to visit family in Sacramento. Budget will be $600,000 on the high end, would like a pool, and from .25-.50 acres. Thanks in advance!

Colleyville and Flower Mound both offer easy airport access, bigger lots for your price point, excellent schools and solid athletics.

Depending on how far out you want to be, add Argyle to the list above.

If you want great schools with great football there are 2: Allen and Carroll

If you want great schools with great baseball there are more such as Plano, Allen, Coppell, Flower Mound and Carroll.

If you want great schools with great basketball there is Allen and sometimes Plano.

I don't know much about track.

Anything else and you will get lower level sports and/or lower level school. It doesn't mean they are bad, but they just aren't at or near the top.

To that point, someone from NJ might be overwhelmed at just how far athletics can go in Texas vs New Jersey. You'll be able to find good (and even great) programs in any suburb, especially since you will have to look at private teams to be able to compete in public school at the HS level.

The Allen HS Band is bigger than some NJ schools. They built that $60M stadium for the Band. They couldn't fit into the old stadium anymore. LOL Their practice field is better than almost all NJ HS stadiums.

If you're from some of the smaller Bergen schools in lower BC look into some of the smaller schools if sports is important for the kids. Then you will figure out what works for your family.

Of course the bigger schools may have better Academic options if you're from Upper BC and regional larger school districts.
