If we're comparing hotel bars, The Ritz is head & shoulders a better atmosphere, better service and a much better bar.

Mansion/Rosewood is fine, but it's coasting on past reputation and not really keeping up with where the luxe hotel industry is going. Overall, the place feels a little like a dusty time capsule.

Rosewood hasn't operated The Mansion in a number of years.

ETA - gotta roll I'll be back.

I agree about the time capsule, but that's also what makes it entertaining at times

3). Your two finger neat pour is just real life. Two fingers in a normal bar glass is ~1.5oz which is the maximum legal single pour in TX (pretty much every other state as well). As a non-regular at night there is approaching zero chance a good bartender is going to serve you a neat and long pour of anything. There are just too many TABC agents working and his/her total drinks served accounting must agree closely with the amount of booze sold audited through tax stamps. The TABC audits these things looking for cheaters. So if you get a long pour someone else has to get a short pour. Now regulars who tip well...........you see the issue.

The way it works at nearly every bar in Texas - regulars who tip well see longer pours. People who have clearly been drinking, weekenders, strangers, young people etc. get short poured to make up the gap. Best guess is if you walked up to Danny at the bar and told him about your prefered 75 Cocktail it'd be perfect for you from then on. Also if you show up regularly that two-fingers would likely morph into a more impressive pour.
^All this

Coming from a former bartender here, there’s no benefit to over pouring or under pouring. It’s theft to over pour and good customers never expected that. In addition to TABC the comptroller come in and do pour tests and of course you don’t know it’s them until after you’ve made the drink.

Again, my comment was not about the amount of bourbon. I was purely giving context to the cost. Yes, I understand the legality.

Again, I wasn't complaining on the amount; I was only providing the amount as context for the price and somehow that got focused on /shrug

No, Rosewood still operates it... It's just the Hunts who sold the entire chain back in 2011.

The operations were sold to New World Hospitality Hong Kong several years ago. New World later changed its name to something like Rosewood Hotel Group (Ms. Hunt's company was called Rosewood Hotels and Resorts). Rosewood Hotel Group is owned and controlled by the Chow Tai Fook suite of companies Hong Kong. As I understand it Caroline Rose Hunt's estate and original partners still own the physical plant and land or at least most of it.

I believe we're in agreement on all of this

That said, it's odd that the Dallas location feels so dated when the other Rosewood locations are so superbly designed and kept.

London, Mayakoba and Hong Kong are my favorites. I'm happy to see the brand continue to expand.

The Mansion has a special local reputation. If they make any changes they have to be careful.

They HAD a special reputation. Times have changed.

They can't coast on the past: If they want to survive, they have to keep up.
