In my opinion, the change is more about culture than the physical infrastructure. Plenty of western metros have wide 20th country roads like Dallas but are much safer to ride in.

Here people aren't looking for you and if they do see you they get pissed off and think you shouldn't be on "Their" roads. I've seen road rage vs cyclists everywhere, but here people are particularly car-centric, it's part of the culture.

PLEASE don't do this, especially with little children in tow. And in front of parked cars or cars stopped at a light where a driver can't see that someone is about to walk out into the street. We cannot see you!
