No, but why wouldn't you just get ATT fiber for gigabit? It's a few dollars more but you get symmetrical gigabit speeds.

Because it's not available everywhere.

Where I live, Suddenlink is the only game in town for fast internet.

OP, I don't have gigabit, but I have their 200Mb plan, and we consistently get 210-220 for that. It's been far more reliable than our neighbors that have AT&T for the past 5 years.

As mentioned, ATT isn't widely available and I'm thinking that's a good thing. Because competition in ISP services isn't allowed in Texas (or 25 other states), most cities can only have 1 Fiber and 1 cable provider. Texas government passed a law not long ago, it never made any news stories here that I read, which outlawed cities from starting their own ISP service (gotta love lobbyist and monopolies).

It seems one of the few things both the Dems and Reps agree with (aka, those lobbyist spread their money around equally)

ATT has been hemorrhaging customers left and right over the last couple of years when it comes to internet and TV (Directv) and if they were my only Fiber option, that would suck.

Where I'm at, we have a choice between Frontier (Fiber) and Spectrum (cable). Both max at 200 so no GIG service.

Per my neighbors on nextdoor, Frontier is less likely to have interrupted service but when they do, their customer service is a nightmare to deal with and their repair time is in days. There are also a lot of complaints about odd billing practices, being over-charged, auto-pay being made but not credited, etc. Again, their customer service is horrible.

From my experience back when it was Verizon, when the ONT battery backup dies, you can't turn off the alarm and Verizon's answer was for me to pay for a new battery. I'm thinking the battery was something like $80+ a service charge and they wouldn't let me buy an aftermarket battery nor would they allow me to install it myself. My battery from the install died just after 2 years.

This was back in 2007 and a quick search showed me what battery to buy (cost about $15 from BatteryPlus and replacing it was just as simple as replacing AA batteries in a TV remote) but Verizon was having none of that. They told me if I did that and they found out, I was voiding my agreement and could be facing a fine/lawsuit. I cancelled and pulled the battery myself to stop the beeping. 2 years later I got a "collection" bill stating I owed Verizon 6 months worth of service (after I cancelled and they shut off service) but that is another story for another time.

Spectrum has more outages, from my experience it's not often, but it is resolved pretty quickly. Their customer is service is a lot easier to deal with. The main complaint, and it's happened to me more than once, is everything works fine then out of the blue, connections are spotty. You call, they run tests and send someone out a day later. Chances are very good the tech is going to have to replace something in the junction box. But at least the billing isn't a surprise.

(I'm talking about internet only, not home phone or TV service).

I would give any competition service a shot because the anti-competition in Texas makes for some lazy companies that overcharge.

So ended up with AT&T fiber and it's giving me around 400 down wireless and 1 gig via lan. I did had to upgrade my router of personal choice to cover dead spots.

I have fewer outages and quicker repairs (same day when it is Internet - before I cut cord TV fixes may have taken longer but I could live with that and were credited for the outage) with Frontier compared to Time Warner Cable when I had it before. However, their billing department is the worst I have ever dealt with of any company. They are so terrible even the field techs will admit they suck. My last billing problem went on for months until I filed a complaint with the FCC. Then it got resolved within 2 days. Also, I still have a set top box of theirs that I was supposed to have returned but they have never sent me the shipping instructions even though I asked multiple times. I either moved it to a closet or the attic in case they ever realize this and actually want it back.

I've had this happen since Frontier took over though the hardware is from the Verizon days. There was a silence button on my unit. They told me I could order the battery from them or buy an aftermarket and replace it myself which I did.

I've never heard a single person in my town who didn't start cussing when I asked them about Spectrum.
