Default Retire Plano area

Since you are looking about apartments and proximity to Richardson, I would recommend the Downtown Plano area. It's as walkable as you get in Plano but still retains a neighborhood feel. Not lots of restaurants but there are pleasant small ones. A neighborhood pub to hang out in. Small park for a little green. And right on the light rail which gets you downtown to arts district/ Perot museum etc. in 25-30 minutes. The new line to DFW will be in by 2021 I think. Close commute to Richardson from 10-20 minute drive. Hopefully the new redo the Collin Creek mall will bring more restaurants and shops.

The alternative of Legacy area is too far from Richardson for my taste. But it is much more upscale and has many more shops, and high end restaurants. It is very close to all the shopping in Frisco. Not so close to any good light rail station. It is very walkable.

The State Farm area is also perfect for Richardson/Plano. It is right on the border of both cities. All the apartments there are new, no older than five years I would say. It has a Whole Foods, lots of restaurant options, and is right on the light rail as well. Once again good shopping will be dependent on the Collin Creek mall remodel.
