frankly the Metroplex works for me
North TX is just too large and would include geographically towns like Dennison, Denton, Whicita Falls, Gainesville across to Texarkana
that is just laziness talking/writing

and the editors are no better informed than the writers---

and the Fort Worth paper is not that much better but Belo has been cutting jobs right and left and hiring newbies w/no sense of place or research skills...

That's why you rarely hear it anymore. Nobody knows what the h#ll the Metroplex refers too! Unless you live here and think you know. Except that since it was "coined" in the 70s, does it include Allen? Does it include Prosper? Does it include Balch Springs? Does it include Fairview? If it includes Prosper, why doesn't it include Sherman? Case closed.

Also, coined is not 'patented.'
I know "coined" is not "patented". But I meant to say copyrighted as the article points out.

You are right, I have also heard "North Texas" or "Metro Area" quite frequently lately. But there are still plenty of people using "Metroplex". Local commercials use it all the time as well as Fox 4 news. I'm not sure about the other news stations, I don't watch them as much.

And according to the article which is from 2002:
Today the term defines the now 12-county Consolidated Metropolitan Statistical Area. The brand equity of "Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex" is a real and continuing asset to the region.

Yes, that was 6 years ago but like I said, I still hear it quite frequently. It's not dead yet!

How come when I say "Metroplex" out loud, I feel like drawling it out with a twang? LOL.

Let's post signs coming into Texas that read "There is NO "the" in front of the names of our highways! Please refrain from identifying our roadways in this manner. If you cannot then please get your *** back to Californication. Thank you and y'all have a nice day!"

I'm SO guilty of this. Give us a little break... it takes a while to erase that stuff from our brains It's been programmed since birth

I'm sure all of the native Texans would have a hard time taking "ya'll" out of your vocabulary if you moved somewhere else, right? Same difference

Wow, it is not that serious, is it?

How would you like it if you moved somewhere and they told you to stop talking with a Texas accent? That would be very insulting...

It's not that serious, jeez! It's a SoCal quirk, sure, but I seriously doubt that 6 million folks in the metroplex are going to be overwhelmed and annoyed by a few transplants saying "the" as a modifier before a freeway.

I wish that was the only thing I had to get concerned about in life...
