Any suggestions on a good & safe place for swimming lessons in Plano/Allen area? We wanted to get our 5-year old daughter started on swimming, and were looking for someplace where they teach in small groups, which I guess would cost less than private lessons. Thanks.

I suppose the natatorium in Allen would have some information or phone numbers for you to contact.

Recreation centers usually offer wonderful lessons. Or at least they do in Carrollton. Private or group. Also, YMCA offers wonderful lessons. If the Allen School district has an natatorium sometimes they offer lessons ...at least in Carrollton ISD and LISD they do. Good luck finding the right place for your child.

Lifetime Fitness (Allen & Plano) has a variety of level/ ages swim lessons that are open to the public and they allow a max of 4 kids so it is a very small group with a lot of one on one attention. Most of the time they don't even have the 4 enrolled so it might just be your child and one or two other kids. Kind of expensive though.

When I was a kid, I took swimming lessons through the City of Plano Parks and Recreations department.

I don't remember too many details on how to sign up (i was a kid!) but I do remember my mom looking up the classes in the book, then getting up at like 5:30 AM to sign my sisters and I up before all the classes filled up!

The classes were really good - I graduated from there to COPS and swam semi-competitively for 3 - 4 years.

You do have to live in Plano city limits to take advantage of this program. If you live in Allen, maybe they have something similar?

I have heard great things about Emler, too. It's at Park/Ohio.

Oak Point Center in Plano and also Emler are two great indoor places to start lessons in the winter. Emler keeps their pool much warmer.
