Can we please keep this thread focused on Coronavirus in DFW and post information that could help each other?

The governor had mentioned that the senior citizens and health care providers will be tested first. So we need to wait for guidance once the center is setup in Dallas. The governor wants to ensure that we are not overwhelming the system by going for tests if we are not showing symptoms or they are mild enough that we can isolate ourselves to avoid spread.

Moderator note: Sound advice for everyone. Again, please keep this thread locally-focused. I don't want to delete posts, but will do so in order to keep the thread active and the discussion on topic.

My brother was down in Deep Ellum yesterday for his fiancee's co worker's birthday bash (yeah he thought it was a stupid idea too, but the fiancee is one of those "this is all a hoax" types, and he caved). He said he was shocked, the bars/clubs were all packed to the gills. Clearly people here in the metroplex are NOT taking this seriously at all. It's a shame that it appears people cannot be trusted to do the right thing, instead it's going to have to be a government mandated action that saves us all. I think I read that Ohio and some other states are now closing down bars and clubs. Texas will probably be dead last in this but hopefully this happens sooner rather than later.

You can't stop bar people from going to bars & nightclubs. They'll do it no matter what. I would hope that at least, the bars are limiting how many people can go in those places at one time. Doesn't sound like it though. Very socially irresponsible.

I think people's legitimate need to make money (restaurants/bars cant survive without people coming in) means that they will ALWAYS place that need above the health risks that can affect ALL OF US. This means unfortunately that the only solution is for the government to step in and force people to obey (ordering the closing of bars/clubs/arenas etc).

All it takes is for one positive to be in one of those packed bars/clubs. Infecting even just 5 people, who then infect 5 more, or go home and infect their families/friends...yeah we need the government to step in and get a hold of this nonsense.

Drove through DE today and it was packed with young folks eating brunch.

Honestly, if they weren't at risk of spreading this further, I'd simply call them stupid.

This is Darwinism. Sadly, it will also affect a lot of innocent people.

I have mixed feelings about this. There's a need for some economic activity. If there is no economic activity, there will be layoffs. Laid off people can not spend money. Unemployment doesn't cover much. The recession deepens.

I've already heard about some white collar local workers getting laid off.

There were crowds throughout the week in places like Deep Ellum, Lower Greenville, and Uptown/Downtown.

And dead people spend even less. Not sure what the debate is about honestly. I'm sure all those bars and restaurants would prefer that the patrons be gone temporarily rather than permanently?

That makes sense. I'd actually like to see Wall Street closed instead of the local businesses. Wall Street did close for a few days after 9/11. The downward spiral of the Dow, the S&P 500, and the Nasdaq makes consumers and business owners/members of executive management nervous.
