Just moved here from SoCal 2 weeks ago and oh boy am I paying a price for this sweltering humid heat... I am telling myself that this will end in 4-6 weeks and it should be fine after that. Am I right in my assumptions? When does it start cooling down? I heard mid Sep through mid May is not too bad? So 4 months of extreme heat?

Isn't this heat and humidity similar to summers in FL?

You can pretty much expect to have daily highs in the 90's thru out most of September. It use to start cooling off in September but the past 5 to 10 years or so it seems close to the middle of October when fall would finally arrive in Texas, when the average daily highs are usually be in the 80's, low humidity makes for some of the most pleasant weather found anywhere.

- That's the price to pay to get a 4000+ sft brand new box house in a cookie cutter neighborhood for around $500k or something that some posters on this board brag about DFW/TX in comparison with CA.

To your question - like above poster said, this is year is relatively mild - it will be even hot otherwise...by mid September or so it can cool down a bit..Dallas weather is not something to boast about - Summers are super hot, then 1-2 months good fall weather, then Winters can get very cold with a few days of icy snow(some years), you can see days with 20's going all the way up to 60's 70's within the same day. Then spring comes with hail storms, after few days Summer starts again

Unless you spend alot of time outdoors, the heat isn't all that hard to beat.

I dont understand why people talk so much about Texas heat.?So many other states are just as hot and I dont hear people always complaining about the heat when the state gets mentioned. I dont get it. P.S I've lived in both dry heat& humid heat climates my entire life except the time I was in the bay area. [NO DISRESPECT TO THE OP]...

which to me is absolutely insane LMAO! Coming from Southern California coastal region I would classify this heat as "oppressive"!

Houston IMO would be more similar to Florida summers than DFW. The summers in Florida have a much more tropical feel, often with afternoon thunderstorms. When the heat really sets in over North Texas, rain is more rare.

Texas heat is intense and unrelenting. There is no break at night, there is typically no break with rain, there isn’t somewhere relatively close by to get a change in climate...You have to live it to believe it.

What got to me was going to high school football games in October and it was still 92 degrees—-two weeks later everyone was wearing hats and gloves and freezing.
