Hello All,
We are planning to move to Frisco, Texas from Bay Area, next Spring for Fall start of Middle school (2nd year). I was told that lot of people have moved from Bay Area to Frisco for Schools. I do not where to start, how to find right schools in Frisco. How to find the house to rent? Rent my home in the Bay Area.
If any of you have done something similar can you please share some insights? I will appreciate it.
It will be great to know when is the time to look for rental homes there and then apply for admission to middle school. Will April, 2021 be ok, or sooner?

Thank you so much
Regards,
Priya

Where is your job and what is your budget? Schools in TX do not follow city limits. There are parts of the city of Frisco that are zoned to other school districts. Your home address will determine where you are zoned and for the most part, you cannot choose a different school even within the same ISD. Late spring is when most houses will go on the market since school is usually out in late May/early June.

In addition, you will not need to apply for a school in Frisco. It will be based only upon your home address. (So make sure that where ever you rent has nice homes to buy - otherwise you will have to change schools when you ultimately buy).

The only schools you would apply to are private schools and/or magnet schools which I don't believe Frisco has. Spring next year will be good timely.

Are you familiar with Frisco? Will you be working from home or in the outer suburbs? (Just for frame of reference - downtown Dallas to Frisco would be a ridiculous commute). Most people say to find the job first and then the housing location.

Additionally, is there a specific reason that you have zeroed in on Frisco? Not to knock Frisco, but there's lot of other comparable big suburbs in DFW. Close by to Frisco you have Plano and Allen for example with a variety of other smaller ones. They are all fairly interchangeable with good schools, but of course some variances.

My husband has a consulting job. So any location is fine. My budget for rent is $2000.00. Do you mean homes will come to rent only around May? I got good reviews about schools in Frisco. That's why zeroed in on Frisco

Frisco is fine (not my cup of tea), but fairly interchangeable with other Far North suburbs such as Plano, Allen, Flower Mound, etc. I don't know of Frisco being more or less popular than any of them. Frisco is known for having a very high SE Asian population which may be attractive. (Some schools are majority SE Asian). I've heard the schools are good and competitive.

I don't think of Frisco as having a huge rental market - its a new suburb so many people move out there when looking to buy brandnew....But I'm sure there will be some. There will be openings all the time, but its well known that many people look to move at the end of a school year...hence why I'd expect more openings in May and June when looking at single family homes in good school districts.

2K seems low for a house rental (and Frisco doesn't have a lot of apartments), but looks like there is a few options. Just make sure they are zoned to Frisco schools if that is your end goal. For Example: https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/7...62573319_zpid/

My husband is also a consultant - so in non-COVID times its all about a good commute to the airport. We live near Downtown Dallas and its about 25-30 mins to DFW. I assume it wouldn't be horrible from Frisco although suburbs closer to DFW will be better.

Your budget might not be enough to find what you want in Frisco. A quick zillow search shows 32 homes in that price range, many of which are well under 2,000 square foot. If you need a dedicated home office, even less 4 bedrooms available.

If your husband is going to be flying a lot on his job, check out rentals in the Grapevine/Colleyville school district or Coppell school district. Much better located and very good schools.

Even as a consultant ( I was married to a director with a consulting company) your husband will likely have places he will regularly drive to so commute patterns are important to know. While traffic here is not as torturous as the Bay Area, it can be pretty difficult. So keep that in mind.

There are many, many great school districts in DFW. Frisco is fine, but oh so many others are as well. $2K rent is on the conservative side.....

As mentioned in a prior post, school districts have attendance zones that don’t consistently follow city limits. Example, city of Irving is served by Irving, Carrollton-Farmers Branch and Coppell School Districts. Grapevine-Colleyville ISD serves Colleyville, Grapevine, parts of Euless and a small section of Hurst. Etc. Etc. Etc.....this goes on and on. You really, really need to know what attendance zone any address is in. You can check online for each school district’s attendance zone map.

Rentals are available year round. It all depends on when leases expire. If you want to enroll your children in private or charter schools, you’ll need to contact the schools you are interested in to learn their application processes. Public schools don’t need applications for admission, simply proof of residence.
