Hello, I am driving from Austin to Sherman, Texas, and I was wondering what the quickest route is. Toll roads are fine, if it's more efficient.

Any advice? We would be leaving early Saturday morning.

I-35 north, then take 75 north in downtown Dallas. No tolls involved.

Agree, no reason to try to avoid downtown on a Saturday morning.

The TX-OU game is in Dallas on Saturday at 11am. I would be prepared for heavy traffic northbound from Austin all the way into downtown Dallas. I don’t know what it will be like with limited attendance this year but that is usually a hell of a weekend to travel via I-35.

I didn’t take the game into account...

I35E to 635, go all the way around to 75, and take that north to Sherman. That will avoid a large part of the traffic, at least as much as you can without getting onto country roads.

THanks, guys! THanks for the heads up on the game. We will be leaving like around 5am in the morning. Should be early enough.

I know I said Austin as the origination point, but we are actually near Stonewall, Tx. So, we could take 281 all the way up to Cleburne, but we are concerned about deer on the backroads this early in the morning.

That's a legitimate concern. Personally, I would not drive 281 except in the daylight this time of year due to the deer. Cleburne is on I-35W, not I-35E, so you'd have to take I-20 between the two freeways.

Watch the TXDOT signs for alerts about the construction in Waco. If you're coming through in early morning, the traffic may not be too bad, and the loop is an alternative. Also, if you have the Waze app on your smartphone, it will help you find the best route.
