I would blow off Addison and Las Colinas and concentrate on Uptown (you did say you hate traffic, right?). I don't see that it has been discussed but adjacent to Uptown is Oak Lawn (west side of Turtle Creek) which runs almost all the way over to Southwestern, depending on your definition. Knox-Henderson and Lower Greenville also have some of the properties you like - they are a few minutes further, but you don't need a freeway. Also the homes in those areas have been appreciating very well.

It looks like the perponderance of opinion is focused on Uptown, Addison and Las Colinas. I'd agree with that, more or less, but there are more things to say.

DART light rail should reach Inwood at Harry Hines by late 2010, so you've got just a couple of years to wait. But if you are willing to ride a bus, you'll find that the service from downtown is very frequent and quick... a bus every few minutes.

Which leads me to the next topic... there are also urban type neighborhoods in downtown Dallas, generally in the West End area, near the Farmers Market, and just east of downtown. Living there would make your commute to Southwestern Medical completely car-free. You could also conveniently commute by bus from the Uptown area, but not as conveniently.

Alternatively, you could live near a DART rail station, take DART to downtown and then transfer to a bus to SW Med, and there are some transit villages, such as Mockingbird Station, with an urban vibe.

Just to clarify something, Uptown Dallas is more or less of an extension of Downtown Dallas to the north, with high rise office and residential buildings along McKinney, and gradually thinning out to residential buildings the farther north you go. It actually contains several discrete neighborhoods, such as LoMac, State-Thomas, the Vinyard, Victory, and West Village. There are other neighborhoods on the fringes of Uptown such as Turtle Creek, CityPlace, Oak Lawn and Knox-Henderson, that could conceivably be lumped into Uptown. West Village and CityPlace share a DART Rail subway station with very frequent service. You might also consider Mockingbird Station, also with DART rail, as an urban neighborhood with a young person's vibe.

I think you'd fit well in uptown/downtown
