I’m moving from Oakland, CA, my best buddy came out there last year and started a business in Plano and he wants me to come work for him. I just want to live somewhere that is quiet, pleasant, established and safe, suburban but not far from interesting things to do. It’s also important that the area is good for teenagers because my baby brother who is 15 (I’m 24) might be coming to live with me and get a fresh start. I’ve been wanting to move to Texas for awhile but before this I was mainly focused on Houston and was actually really close to buying a place in Cinco Ranch last year.

Nah, not unless you can buy a house and get a half mile or more to the west.

I’m looking to buy a townhouse.

Not a good area?

The apartments at Coit and Belt Line have been notoriously sketchy for years. They are older, and attract a lot of crime. Do a street view of the businesses at that intersection, and you'll see that most of them cater to low-income customers. You'd be much better off to avoid that area.

Thank you. Can you recommend an area for me?

"Downtown" Plano around Jupiter and 14th is being re-developed and there's a sea of apartments (and probably condos and townhouses as well) all round there. Much better area than Coit Rd.
