Thank you for your warm welcome and we think we found a great home. we are still in the process of closing so we aren't there yet but we are hopeful to have the keys to the house in a week or two. We lived in wisconsin in a small town where the closest city was an hour away in either direction. Here, you are a hop skip and jump away from a city, mall, basically anything within minutes. there is also public transportation and with the rising cost of fuel, we just felt this was our best option. Lancaster may not have the amenities of the bigger towns but there is also a lack of traffic that many like since it means only residents are basically here and makes for a homey atmosphere. that will all change soon with the changes coming. some people don't like change and won't appreciate the added traffic but the location of the businesses is already on a busy highway. But perhaps it will lower our taxes as businesses will be contributing? not sure about that one, but there is always hope. I didn't know the medical center closed. does anyone know if it is reopening? we go to baylor, which isn't too far but nice to know we have a hospital in our backyard for emergencies.

The Medical Center closed abruptly in February and came as a suprise to everyone, even city officials. The physicians offices on either side of the hospital remain open. According to recent articles in the local newspaper, there are some companies looking at the property, but no deals have been made. Hopefully, it will reopen soon.

wow, how can they just close a hospital? with no warning no less. must have been some serious financial difficulties. lets hope they reopen soon or build somewhere else. the loan went through so we close in about a week or so, depending on if we can get a load back here next week. one thing about being a truck driver is that you can never get back on a specific date.

CeCe5 is right. Even with the current economic slump, Lancaster has continued to attract new businesses, especially commercial, to the city. The Blue Grove Plaza Shopping Center at the intersection of Pleasant Run Rd. and Bluegrove Rd. has been the epicenter of new retail growth in the city. New city facilities are also under construction along North Dallas Avenue. Our location, nice neighborhoods, and affordable home prices are pluses as well.
