That attacker must have been a total psychotic lunatic. I believe he was burglarizing a home nearby.

That area of the trail where the jogger was attacked is a very visible and wide open area right next to Legacy Dr. It's probably one of the safest areas you can imagine for jogging on a trail. The whole area is surrounded by nicer single family home subdivisions with no public transit for miles. It is the last place you would expect anyone to get attacked.

So, if anything that case shows that you have to be always alert and watching your surroundings when out jogging alone.

If you are working from home and really following COVID restrictions then you need to go out and run or ride bike to maintain your physical and psychological health. Use basic common sense, these areas are as safe as it gets anywhere. When I ride my bicycle, I see more runners of both genders out there now than ever before.

Probably have more incidents with critters....coyotes, rattlesnakes, dogs, bobcats, vultures, bees, wasps, flies, mosquitos, etc than with people out to murder you.
Run fast and in serpentine.

Actually, no lie, coyotes and bobcats are getting to be a factor to consider. My wife was on a walking path a couple of months ago and met a couple that was still in the midst of freak-out, having just seen a bobcat on the trail.

This week I have seen solitary female joggers at 6:00am and at 12:30pm, so I'd say my own neighborhood is pretty safe for women running alone at night, and I see tons of women running alone during the day.
