Whoever wrote that wiki page is full of beans. A school planned years in advance, opening as a tiny very religious school and then a few years later seeing and influx of interest due to bussing and whatnot does not rise to the level of, "segregation academy."

There are a couple of privates around here that do meet that label tho.
*my* friends aren't racist!

You'd need something at least a little insightful and interesting to be patronizing. Insulting my mom via implication does not make the cut.

FWIIW the Baylor kid is a resident at program that would meet your lofty expectations....oh wait you were talking about undergrad. Maybe he'll save your life someday Baylor and all.

I spoke with one of the founding members of TCA about this the other day.

The school was formed as a response to a court case in 1962 that removed prayer from public schools. A group of parents and educators got together and decided they wanted to start a school where prayer was a focus and a common aspect at the school. They also wanted to teach other biblical aspects like Creation. They wanted the academics to also be good so they spent the next 8 years planning and prepping and working on all the details and funds to get the school going, before opening in 1970.

There is documentation for ALL of this.

The wikipedia page is actually making its claim off of ONE article that you sent and ONE quote by ONE person, who wasn't even involved in any way with the school. It was just her personal recollection on the matter.

As I've seen countless errors on wikipedia, its not surprising but more frustrating.
Hopefully the school will be able to correct the information.

Glad you clarified and hopefully the school corrects on Wikipedia. I do think that many private schools in Dallas flourished in the early 1970s with the flight from public schools with desegregation/busing. Some private schools were expressly created as a reaction to the rulings, but that doesn't mean that TCA was.

One of the founders of Wiki was on the idiot-box the other day. He said straight up that there are two key problems with Wiki right now.

1. Over the last few years Wiki has jumped to the political left. With many pages sterilized. He said to look at the socialism and communism pages for examples and note purges, death camps, engineered famine, persistant economic underperformance etc. were either omitted entirely or strongly whitewashed. I looked and he's 100% correct.

2. Thousands of Wiki pages about entities have been written by people disconnected from said entity - often the writer has and axe to grind. Generally, Wiki refuses or is very slow to correct these issues.

barnicles, I would love to hear more about your experience at TCA. I'm applying my son there for kindergarten.

I read this too, basically the day after this conversation regarding wikipedia started.
It felt very timely.
The FOLLOWING day, there was an op-ed in the Times basically telling people that they shouldn't dig so far on the internet to find answers to their questions, and instead they should trust a quick wikipedia search to give them the right answer. Looking too deeply into it might cause them to be manipulated by what they find.

I'm not even ****ting. This is the world we live in. I don't have that face palm emoji on this forum but that's what I'm doing in my mind.
