Hi,

I have a 4.5 year old son who is not going to school/day care currently. He does not have experience with schooling, we wanted to keep him at home due to COVID. Both parents are working full-time. We live in North Dallas/Farmers Branch. I am looking for day-care options preferably around tollway area. We tried Primrose at Prestonwood in the past for my older son, we had a so-so expeirence there. Also tried Bent Tree Academy, not sure about that school due to their building (small playground area, small classrooms). Any other suggestions?

Are you looking at full-time daycare OR pre-school (which can be several hours a day)? Are you planning on him starting kinder in August? At that age - you normally are looking for PK-4.

Thanks for your reply.

I am working full time and looking for full-time daycare. He is going to start kindergarten around August/September at the public school. He can start day-care in April/May and plan is to have summer camp for June and July.

That sounds pretty tough to look for a location that will have availability in the PK-4 room only for two months. (April-May). It also sounds like a huge transition for such a short-time - since you are planning on using summer camp for June and July. Since your son has no school experience, it could possibly be a rough transition anywhere (just think socialization, learning rule-following, normal viruses for kids who haven't been exposed previously, etc..) Not sure I'd want to go through that struggle for a couple of months even if you can find a daycare that is willing to accept your kid for two months. (Even 4 months if you decide not to do summer camps).

I'm not sure you can afford to be too picky if you are dead set on finding a daycare for this short-term. It might be more about 'who' will let you in vs. your pick of the best. I remember years ago when looking for full-time day care - I was advised that I should have gotten on the list when I was 'thinking' of getting pregnant vs 6 months pregnant. We ended up getting a nanny because it was tough to find availability. Of course - with an older son, you might have more flexibility since you aren't trying to get in the nursery room and Covid puts everything up in the air.

I have a friend who likes Brookhaven Child Development Center - right next to Brookhaven Country Club in Farmers Branch (near 635).
